The Word from the Cave

Sitting here knowing I need to do some schoolwork, but my brain isn't very motivated to get up and start functioning like it's supposed to. The rest of the body isn't helping things. The eyes are going, "Can you like give us a break already?" The fingers are getting sick of having to move around and do my bidding on this keyboard. The legs are feeling rebellious; they want to do what they want to do; it seems like they're sick both of sitting still and of moving.

The eyes command the attention, because if they shut down, it gets very dark. So my fingers take a break from the board and become masseuses for a few seconds. The mouth obeys the command of the tired brain and opens for a nice yawn. The legs start bouncing up and down, tired and restless. Deep down somewhere in my chest cavity, the heart works as rhythmically and methodically as it ever has; good thing, because if it emerged and heard the complaints from the rest of the body, it might decide to just start taking breaks or something. That wouldn't be particularly conducive to my health.

More yawns. The arms stretch and flex, trying to get more comfortable. The fingers drag themselves over the keys, no longer caring to lift themselves up, no longer worried about my blasted typing accuracy.

The brain, perhaps startled into action by the Two Towers battle music emanating from my computer speakers, rouses itself and starts shouting out commands. "Sit up straight! Blink a few times! Type properly! You've got work to do!"

OK. It's right. I settle into the chair, position myself taller, force the fingers to hit the keys high and with pride. It's time to work.

It's Friday, the week before finals. Things are now set in motion that cannot be undone. The body shudders a restless breath and begins.

oh, Luke, just one more week...
We need to hold on one week longer, my love.
My fingers are fine, but my brain is tired, and shares the memo with my back, which aches me and tries to make me lie down, but I don't. so my back passes the message to my head, which pounds in protest.
The beating of my head seems to have disrupted the beating of my heart, which is less regular than usual, but it keeps going despite the head and back, which I think want it to stop. My brain isn't sure where it stands on the issue.

*sigh* just one more week, brain.
In the infamous words of that kid from ratatouille:
LET'S DO THIS THING!
We'll make it, my love. I'm proud of you, you've done wonderfully so far; you get all the schoolwork done, and get your hours in at work, and still have time to be there for me. You're amazing, my Man.
I love you.

Yes, TWO TOWERS battle music is good for that kinda thing! And when my eyes shut down it gets really dark too! My, what a small world!:P
And I think I owe you thanks. On your food post you mentioned that yall had mexican for Christmas dinner. Well, us people were having our own Thanksgiving (except with steak) last night and Mom says, "What are we gonna have for Christmas dinner this year?"
"MEXICAN!!!!" say I. Everybody thought it was the idea of the century! Smoothly taking credit for the whole plan, we made further, more detailed plans. So now we shall have yummy stuff on Christmas same as yall.

Ok ya'll win out on the music thing. And I didn't say it wasn't pretty (love LOR music) but just not fitting. Off to be with the poeple whose home I am at and to show them "Truth Matters". Yes indeed it does! Ok now I am being snorky. lol

;D

Meggy,
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We absolutely LOVE having Mexican for Christmas. I believe it started as a sort of missions emphasis...but, now, it's just gorge yourself on the best food ever! But, in case anyone cares, it still does have a spiritual emphasis...
Lady,
YAY! LOTR is some of the....no, the best score I've ever heard, bar none. :)

Namarie,
Hannah

Yeah, seriously! Mexican is the BEST (LOTR soundtrack too, nothing else compares!) And, what's with the turkey anyone??? Think about it: There were only 4 wild turkeys during the original Thanksgiving feast with the Pilgrims and Injuns. Wild turkeys aren't big and fat like the dead things you get at Wal-Mart, so how far could these have gone between a whole tribe of hungry indians and a colony of white people? More than 1 day of feasting as well! Know what they had more of? Venison. So.... why do we PERSIST in eating turkey on Thanksgiving?

Luke, I just don't know why I continue to be surprised at your... eh, interesting, posts... not interesting in a bad way, just... uh, different.... ;D :P I really can't stand your new playlist though, as I already mentioned in my comment to your last post... :P

Hey dude! Kcd here. Haven’t been on here in a long time! Those are some really nice pics of you and her! Man...how late do you stay up! By the sound of the post you never sleep! Oh...that's a creepy thought! Ya Emy, very unusual post. Well as my sister say, "Dare to be different." Ya, I find that saying a little odd too. :) Oh and trust me, she has really put that into practice! Ya, ya, that was kinda rude. :) Anyway, sorry I haven’t posted in a while!

Emy, you can't stand my new playlist? Why not? There's some awesome songs on it. Like, well, all of them. If you haven't listened to Steve Taylor's "I Want to be a Clone", that's a must-hear; scintillating stuff.

Good to see you again, KCD. I do sleep occasionally, as time permits. ;-)

Hannah Hobbs said...

Okay, the I Want to Be a Clone is....okay, it's pretty good. I like the Why Does the Devil Have All the Good Music...Somehow I remember that...hmm, couldn't be you used to play it a lot, could it?
And, of course I like the rest of it.....ESPECIALLY the DC Talk song....I like it a lot!

Anonymous said...

You don't want me to tell you why I don't like your new playlist, Luke, sorry..... you really don't... :P but I'm going to tell you anyways, and don't take it wrong but it all sounds very 90's.... sorry!!! but you asked... most of the *songs* I don't have a problem with, but the style and the people singing them are... old...
scintillating?????????? clone???? I don't like the song.... it's weird....
~Emy~

Unknown said...

Emma, I would have to concur on the clone song...
And to me it sounds too much like Dad's eighties music, songs like "She blinded me with science"
and "Papa, don't preach..."

Some of the playlist songs are awesome, like 'I wish we'd all been ready', and 'choose life', 'two sets of Jones' and others....
But some of them I *cannot* listen to... What happened to Rich Mullins? and Howard Shore? :^( (that's a pouty face)

Anonymous said...

I'll just say that I don't love the style..
Miss Dictionary, could you define those two words??
~Emy

Unknown said...

Scintillating is an adjective meaning 1. animated; vivacious; effervescent
and 2. witty; brilliantly clever

And I wonder if there's another meaning, that would refer to the clone song, because those don't fit...
:^P sorry, couldn't resist that.
Nah, the lyrics are good, I just don't particularly enjoy the music, at least not when I'm studying...
And clone: (many definitions, but this fits best) a person or thing that duplicates, imitates, or closely resembles another in appearance, function, performance, or style.

haha, miss dictionary strikes again! after Luke and I get married, will I be Mrs. Dictionary? :P

Anonymous said...

Yup.

Unknown said...

what ARE you yupping, Meggy?
Do you agree with the music, or the Mrs. Dictionary thing? :^P

Emma said...

yeah... actually I originally wrote Mrs. Dictionary but then decided you couldn't be that yet... :P

Luke Hobbs said...

This, then, is the sad state of America today. We don't like 90's music because it's just so dated-sounding. OK, I know it was just Emy who said that.
(I have a chip on my shoulder about this.) Christian music was way better in the 90's than it is now. Not in terms of skill and musical quality, but in terms of message and heart. There are brilliant stars (in the biblical sense, that is) out there in Christian music today, but most of it is fluff.

I guess the only songs on the playlist that aren't from the 90's are the two Larry Normans, the Steve Taylor, and the Petra.

You can make fun of Steve Taylor's music all you want, but he had a message that most Christian musicians run away from today. Plus nobody writes more scintillating lyrics (except maybe Weird Al).

Ah well, I'll get over it if you don't like Taylor.

Anonymous said...

Okay, sorry Emy, this time I'm with Luke...I like 90's music. Some of it's a tad-bit annoying, but that's mostly people's voices, not the style...and the lyrics ARE awesome.

Anonymous said...

Oh, Luke, you 89'er.... :P jk...
This is just a time when we'll have to agree to disagree... 90's music is, imo...... blaeghhh!!!! But, that's my opinion... I just don't like the sound... nothing against the lyrics.... that is why I don't listen to K-LOVE, and gag when Air-1 *does* play 90's music...
~Emy

Anonymous said...

Air1 plays TRUE 90's music??? Then, whaddya call 90's music, Emma???
I will admit this...I have to be in the mood for it when I listen to it..
Try PowerWorship...it's worse. :P Sorry...
~Nan

Anonymous said...

sometimes they do... 90's music is music from the 90's, that's all....
I know!! That's why I ONLY listen to Air 1 now...
~Emy

Unknown said...

some of the voices just grate on me when I'm listening and trying to work...
Sorry, darling, I'll try listening to it again after I'm not so busy.
The lyrics are good, an the style I either like or am indifferent to, but some of the voices I can't stand when I'm already stressed.... I'll try again later.
And I give a HUGE amen to the comment that most contemporary christian music is fluff...
sorry, emma, I don't like air 1 b/c it calls itself christian, and yet a lot of it is fluff, and some is even extra-biblical 'trust yourself' JUNK. ick, more ick than the clone song :^P
some is good, but the bad drives me so batty- I usually just listen to country, which doesn't even pretend to be christian... I'm sure there is logic to that... If I had a cd player, I'd listen to rich mullins all the time... that, and LOTR... and maybe some other stuff :^P

Lady of somethin' er 'nother... said...

Amen! to the fluff comments. Have to agree there. 90s music doesn't bother me like it does Emy but it still isn't my favorite. I do like steven Curtis Chapman 90s and dare I say it even some of his 80s music. And that is saying quite a bit b/c I abhor 80s music. Vile sounding stuff(though ther are exceptions). Country is good. I like country, well, some of it.

Emma said...

I guess I don't hear 80's music... LOL but 90's drives me nuts as I'm sure ya'll have picked up on... LOL
As for Air1, don't beat down on my favorite station... LOL, I didn't even listen to it a year ago... but it is awesome... and of course I don't like ALL of the songs, but most of them I do... and I would MUCH rather listen to mostly-good, Christian music than COUNTRY!! ick! :P Oh well I love you anyways Lana. :P
~Emy

Luke Hobbs said...

We've got some rather varied views on music, and that's probably good.

Their language, it was new to me
Then Christianese got through to me
Now I can speak it fluently
I want to be a clone

How can you not love that, even if you don't care for the style of music, or for Taylor's voice? He did a great job speaking to the Church with a clarity that few have ever matched; the only analogous artist today that I know of would be Casting Crowns. Totally different style, and I'll agree that Mark Hall is much more pleasant to listen to, but just like Taylor, they face Church hypocrisy in a lot of their songs.

Why do I keep defending Steve Taylor?

Unknown said...

ack, darling, I *said* the lyrics were good!
*hides face*
iluvyou.
*hides face again*

Luke Hobbs said...

That wasn't directed at you, darling. Don't hide your face, please. I need to see it...I love you and it doesn't bother me that you're not the biggest fan of Steve Taylor's sound.

Anonymous said...

I didn't say I had a problem with any of the lyrics... I never said that at all. In fact, I do think the lyrics of that song are pretty funny.... but, I cannot stand the sound!!! As for Steve Taylor, I've never even heard of him... Casting Crowns' church-hypocrisy-offending songs are much better tho... :P OK offending didn't sound right... but I can't remember the word I wanted to use. :P LOL
I'm tired, ok? give me a break... :P But tomorrow is the last performance so then... never mind, that's too sad to think about...
~Emy~

Anonymous said...

Wow...interesting. I'm with Emy on Air1. I like it...I stick with it only because I know they really do believe that's what God wants them to play..You don't believe me, you can email them. Trevor did.
And, I prefer Casting Crowns, too. But, I like Steve Taylor..his lyrics are awesome! I like his sound...I admit it isn't my fave, but no one here likes *exactly* what I do.
But, as for fluff...it depends. In some ways, it's stronger now than ever. Yes, there is some serious junk out there. Then there's some of the best ever...
Maybe I'm just strange...but, honestly, I like almost all Christian music...except for a few 70's rock songs... :P

Anonymous said...

"Stronger than ever" RARELY are the lyric to the popular "Christian" songs of today stronger than ever. But that is just my oppinion. I love you anyway Nan.

I like Nan better. Then I don't get all ya'll Hannahs confused.

;D

p.s. I know I should have left out he dixie but.....
